On any given day browsing through the internet I am confronted by advertisements promoting roulette systems. These systems normally come with headlines such as ‘Make $500 a day using a proven system’, ‘online casino riches’ etc.

But do these so- called systems really work?

Firstly lets look at the game of roulette.

Roulette is one of the oldest casino games offered by gaming providers and has proven to still be immensely popular within the gaming community. In roulette, Players have a number of options where they can place their bets. Firstly there is a single number where the payout is 35-1, red and black, odd and even, columns etc- all with different payouts.

Once all bets have been placed, the croupier spins the wheel in one direction and spins the ball in another. The winner is on the number on which the bet has been placed.

So how can we beat roulette? All spins of the wheel are totally random. If the number 26 comes up twice in a row, how would I know when is it’s future predicted date? The answer is we cannot predict it. How can we predict a mathematical outcome if we have no historical basis for it?

Let’s look at the law of averages. If I spin a coin up 10 times I would expect it to come down 5 times heads and 5 times tails. The reality is though that it might come up heads 7 times, while only falling on tails thrice. True, in the long term over thousands of trials we might achieve a more even outcome. This is called standard deviation. So any system that tells us we can predict a number is doomed to fail.

The second most common roulette system is ‘The Martingale System’. The philosophy of the martingale is as such. For every bet I lose, I should double that bet until I win. Sounds good, but what happens when I lose 10 bets in a row? For example.

First bet £2 lose

2nd bet £4 lose

3rd bet £8 lose

4th bet £16 lose

And so on. This system would be great if we had a bankroll of millions, and secondly, if the casinos would allow us to place such big bets. Unfortunately the ‘Martingale system’ is a loser in the long run because of those limitations. I’m not saying that it does not work in the short term. If used, this system normally allows multiple small wins followed by the inevitable big loss which can completely wipe out the depositor’s bankroll! Use with extreme caution.

This relates to all positive and negative progression betting systems. They all can offer short term gains but statistical analysis has proved that none of them hold up for the long haul.

Another system recently introduced on the internet, Is by a chap pertaining to have digital software that can measure and read the spin of the ball. Great! I’m sure all land- based casinos will offer free entry to all players with this software. Casinos spend a great deal of their own money on sophisticated equipment to deter players who have any digital cheating devices on them, and if caught the player will have legal charges pressed against them.

Not too mention theses devices do not work online.

So is there anything that works? Afraid not. The only way to profit off roulette in the long term is by bonus promotion. How does that apply?
